My four magazines; audience, product, market segmentation analysis

My four music magazine analysis

One of the requirements for the main task is to also create a double page spread for my music magazine. I began by looking into how different double pages spreads are written. In particular, I looked at the language devices used so as to engage the reader. A lot of the devices have been adopted across a number of double page spread. This allows me to note down what are the most conventional language devices to us, which will help to use when it comes to creating my own.

Analysing the differences and similarities between music magazine and other genres

Here we analysed the similarities and differences of the conventional techniques between music and other genre magazines. Also we looked at which is most commonly to be found in a magazine (green post it note), element that have been used in way that is specific to music magazine (blue post it not) and those elements that have been used in a way that is specific to the genre of music your music magazine is specifically about (pink post it note). I did this so when it comes to creating my own music magazine I will know what type of techniques to use for that specific genre. Allowing my magazine to become much more successful and meets the criteria’s of the magazine. I will also be looking closely on what codes and conventions are used in the magazine. I will be using a glossary that my teacher gave us to help me use the correct terminology while analysing.

Media Institutions

What is a media institution?

A media institution is a company that owns numerous companies in various mass media; i.e. television, radio, publishing, motion picture, and the Internet. Values and ideologies are transmitted through the representations in media texts. Powerful institutions can influence attitudes, interests and believes.

I have recently been doing some research into different, existing media institutions, all of which can be found in the Prezi below:

Research and Planning

For the research part of my project, I started by going out and buying some music magazines that I will be able to analyse. These magazines include: Q, Kerrang, Classic Rock, UNCUT, NME, The Word and others. I will be compare the magazine with each other to see the difference and similarities. By conducting primary research into real and existing music magazines, it will enable me to gain inspiration when creating own music magazine.
